STAY OPEN has today announced the opening of the brand’s first property, an oceanfront Frank Gehry-designed space in Venice, California which will offer its 'Sleep As A Service' platform to residential stays of one month or longer.

The Lab, right in the center of the vibrant Venice community and just steps from the sand and the area’s popular coffee houses and restaurants, features 10 private PODs, three communal bathrooms featuring Public Goods bath amenities, and expansive communal spaces including an open kitchen and rooftop deck with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.

“We are thrilled to open our first space in a location that truly speaks to the energy of our brand,” said CEO and co-founder Steve Shpilsky. “We believe people not only crave travel more than ever before, but also long to connect with others again in open, beautiful spaces. We are excited to offer this experience to our guests that is affordable and socially engaging.”

Each POD contains a twin Silk & Snow bed with matching linens, USB and USB-C electrical outlets, complimentary WIFI and custom LED lighting. STAY OPEN’s custom app will help match guests and residents with similar interests and connect them before, during and after their stays, while also introducing local experiences in the destination such as rooftop yoga, beach drum circles and breathwork classes through local experience providers such as Vance Vlasek, Carly Gregson and Ariel Rapaport, among others. The app will also eventually allow guests and residents to donate or round up the cost of their stay to help the homeless through the brand’s nonprofit initiative Bed-For-Bed.

STAY OPEN co-founders Steve Shpilsky, Andrew Swerdloff and Alex Morrise, who conceived the brand with the aim of democratizing how and where people sleep with its affordable, design-forward properties, have also partnered with the Port of San Diego and California Coastal Commission to convert a former Budget Rent a Car across the street from the San Diego Airport to a 226-POD property to open in late 2023, and have their sights set on another location in Los Angeles for a late 2022 opening.

The Venice Lab is located at 11 Brooks Avenue #B in Venice, California. Monthly stays begin at $1,500 per month for a private POD.
