We’re learning to Go Green Gradually®. By reducing our energy consumption, reducing our water usage, and perhaps creating some of our own energy through geothermal or solar thermal products, we’ve seen the immediate improvements in our profits.
For those in hospitality, 2010 is a year to remember; We learned we’re beyond optimistic – we’re certifiable (I’m a card-carrying member).
It seems that all hoteliers are looking for ways to cut as much from their operations costs as possible – and for good reason. No one knows when this slump will end, and if you watch the news closely, you likely have whiplash from the contradictory messages we face every day. For the sake of our mental health (or what is left of it), many of us have found it best to avoid the news entirely.
As hoteliers jump into the (perceived) shark-infested waters of social media and on-line marketing, it is easy to see how a fear of over-spending can creep in. The sheer volume of on-line marketing opportunities can overwhelm even the bravest of hearts, and empty even the fullest of wallets.
Does your hotel offer meeting and/or conference space? Have you noticed a trend in the RFP’s you receive from groups, asking about your 'green' or 'sustainable' initiatives? All signs are pointing in the direction of a widespread increase in this trend.
