Airbnb is reporting its strongest quarter ever in the third quarter of 2021, with revenue topping $2.2 billion a 36% jump over the same pre-pandemic period in 2019.
Airbnb revenue climbed 300% year-over-year for the second quarter of 2021 and surpassed Q2 2019 figures by 10%.
Airbnb says the revenue increase was driven by strength in North America and higher average daily rates during the quarter. Comparatively, in the same period last year, revenue was significantly impacted by the cost of cancellations related to COVID-19.
Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky says he believes the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that his business is 'inherently adaptable' as the home-share giant reports financial results for the first time since its IPO in December.
