Turning fifty is a milestone to celebrate. It's a time to reflect, to think back on what's been accomplished, and to plan for the future.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts celebrates its 50th birthday; it looks ahead to the future of its business, and its world.
New Living Values Website
Four Seasons commitment to its values is the oldest part of its story, which will be told online for the first time on a new website, livingvalues.fourseasons.com. The company has always strived to have a long lasting and positive influence on the communities where it operates, and the people it employs and serves around the world. This philosophy has been carried throughout its journey from a single motor hotel in Toronto to more than 80 properties in 34 countries. It is expressed consistently by more than 35,000 employees through actions in three areas of focus: Supporting Sustainability, Building Communities and Advancing Cancer Research.
"Four Seasons has always been guided by the Golden Rule – treating others as we would like to be treated," says Kathleen Taylor, president and CEO, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. "The Golden Rule inspires every interaction with our guests, our employees, our business partners and with each other. Through this website, we're proud to show the ways the Golden Rule inspires us to give back to our communities."
A Local Effort, A Global Commitment
The new website describes Four Seasons global CSR efforts in its three areas of focus and will be the main source for highlighting new initiatives and demonstrating progress on current programs:
Four Seasons of Preservation: Supporting Sustainability – Four Seasons involves employees and guests in the common goal of preserving and protecting the planet and strives to conserve natural resources and reduce environmental impact. Sustainable tourism that enhances and protects the destinations where the company operates is a key focus.
Four Seasons properties are active in an array of initiatives, from preserving ancient coastal ponds in Hawaii to regenerating coral reefs in the Maldives, tracking endangered sea turtles in Nevis, saving elephants in Thailand, reducing waste and conserving energy and water at its properties around the world.
Four Seasons of Purpose: Building Communities – Four Seasons is committed to being a responsible and caring community partner by having a positive economic impact and supporting community goals, both inside and outside its hotels and resorts.
Initiatives include innovative training and mentoring programs for young people such as a partnership with the Vatsalya Foundation in Mumbai and apprenticeship programs in the Maldives; providing textbooks for local children and repairing schools in Costa Rica; building homes for the less fortunate in Florida; supporting orphanages in Jakarta, Riyadh, Macau and Bali; and more.
Four Seasons of Progress: Advancing Cancer Research – For more than 30 years, Four Seasons has been a leading advocate for cancer research through local efforts and broader campaigns, including the Terry Fox Run, now the world's largest single-day fundraiser held in 50 countries annually. Collectively, the company's corporate offices, hotels and resorts raise millions of dollars annually to support and raise awareness of cancer research and care.
