2006 Contract Negotiations Bargaining Update
The Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC) began labor negotiations today with the Hotel Trades Council on a new labor contract for hotel employees. The current labor contract expires at midnight on June 30th.
Joe Spinnato, President and CEO of HANYC stated, "The hotels involved in the negotiations respect and appreciate their employees. The bargaining committee looks forward to sitting at the table with the Hotel Trades Council to negotiate a fair contract that recognizes the contributions hotel employees make."
New York City hotel employees are the highest paid hotel workers in the country and have access to outstanding benefits including free health insurance, dental and vision insurance, and an excellent pension plan. HANYC intends to maintain these benefits, as they are fully aware that NYC hotel employees work hard every day to ensure that their guests have a wonderful experience.
Spinnato remarked, "We have the best employees in the world and we are going to do all we can to get them a new labor agreement that recognizes their commitment and rewards them for their excellent service." Hotel labor negotiations are scheduled to take place throughout the month of April. The Bargaining Committee is comprised of 30 hotels and is responsible for negotiating the labor contract that will be applicable to all of New York City's 100 or more hotels that are covered by the Industry Wide Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Hotel Association of New York City Inc. and the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council.
