Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, located in the heart of downtown on the San Diego Bay, has announced the completion of its multi-million dollar renovation project. Designed by Boston-based Parker Torres Design, the reinvention emphasizes the hotel's bayside location with coloration, textures and patterns inspired by the region's relaxed sophistication.
"Our goal with this reinvention was to celebrate Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina's prime location and create new, memorable experiences to meet evolving guest demand," said Dan Shaughnessy, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina's Director of Sales and Marketing. "Through thoughtful design that blends the laidback, beachy nature of San Diego with the modern, urban feel of downtown and the introduction of reimagined property programming, we've reaffirmed our place as a premier San Diego lodging option for business and leisure travelers."
Inspired by the destination, the redesign features expertly blended beachy hues and organic textures with clean lines and dark metal accents to mimic the coastal modern essence this bright and breezy city exudes. Details of design and new programming include:
Guest Rooms & Presidential Suites
Comprised of 1,366 guest rooms and suites, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina's two signature towers have long been a focal point of the San Diego downtown skyline, designed to resemble the hull of a boat and sail that line the hotel's private marina. The reinvention looked to bring a fresh, contemporary feel to the previous guest room experience – pulling inspiration from the building's modern architecture and nautical ties as a nod to the adjacent marina to create a room that truly embodies the hotel's location. The new guest rooms now showcase soft blue hues and light wood accents, perfectly paired with rope details and metal hardware to round out the metro-coastal vibe. The tower corridors also feature a new carpet design inspired by ocean waves and sandy shorelines.
M Club
A new addition to Marriott Marquis' ground floor, the M Club is an exclusive guest lounge perfect for co-working, breakfast meetings or any other more intimate guest experiences. This space features pops of vibrant color inspired by the coastal sunsets, which offer intentional contrast against the overarching soft, natural design. The space was configured to allow as much natural light as possible, greeting guests with warm, diffused light throughout the day.
North Tower Lobby
With the resort-style pool as its backdrop, the North Tower Lobby now features hues of blue and green that create a synergy and seamless visual connection between both spaces. With thoughtful seating areas throughout, the public space allows guests to delight in spanning pool views upon arrival and mix business with pleasure in individual workspaces or collaborative group settings.
Top Golf Swing Suite
Completed during the first phase of the renovation, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina intentionally converted a former private dining space to the "Bayside Lounge," which is now home to the hotel's on-site Topgolf Swing Suite experience. A hands-on hub for playful competition, the Sunset Lounge features three Swing Suite simulators that overlook the stunning San Diego Bay. The application provides a variety of games for golfers and non-golfers and seamlessly accommodates business meetings, group celebrations and memorable experiences with loved ones for locals and visitors alike.
