Since 1 October 2022, Jaz in the City Vienna has a new bandleader: Michael Dorfer is taking over at the helm as General Manager. He succeeds Michael Fritz, who is leaving the company on his own volition. For Michael Dorfer, the position as General Manager at Jaz in the City Vienna is a sort of homecoming at Deutsche Hospitality: From 2010 to 2016, he had previously worked as Front Office Manager and Executive Assistant Manager at Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof Vienna.
"We would like to warmly welcome Michael Dorfer and are happy to have him join our musical family. With him, we have been able to win a strong personality with more than 20 years of experience in the hotel industry and profound expertise for our young property. Together with his team, he will be the perfect host at Jaz in the City Vienna," says Elisabeth Perwanger, Country Manager Austria and Hungary, Deutsche Hospitality.
Michael Dorfer: "I am very much looking forward to returning to Deutsche Hospitality and to my new job at Jaz in the City Vienna. Since its opening one year ago, the hotel has established itself as a popular location for musicians and music enthusiasts. The regional cuisine with a certain "jazy" twist will meet every taste, and the rooftop bar "mariatrink" guarantees the best drinks with a great view. Best conditions to continue to offer our guests an unforgettable experience for body and soul."
Michael Dorfer has been putting down roots in the Austrian capital since as far back as 2010. After completing his training at the Bad Hofgastein Higher Institute of Tourism, his pathway first took him via Tyrol to Munich and what is now Westin Grand Hotel Munich, after which he then moved to Vienna. There, the 41-year-old worked until recently at Moxy Vienna Airport, which he headed as General Manager starting in 2016. It was in this role that Michael Dorfer won the "General Manager of the Year Award by Marriott International" in 2019 – the native Carinthian impressed the jury above all with his networking skills and congenial leadership style.
