QT Hotels & Resorts has announced the planned 2020 opening of QT Auckland, which will be the 10th boutique hotel property in the collection and the third in New Zealand, joining QT Wellington and QT Queenstown.
As part of the management agreement with QT Hotels' parent company, Event Hospitality & Entertainment (EVENT), property owners Russell Property Group and Lockwood Property Group will be converting an existing building in the Viaduct Harbor - the heart of Auckland's downtown entertainment district - into QT Auckland.
The design-led hotel will feature more than 150 rooms, several meetings and events spaces and a new signature QT dining and bar concept. At the creative helm of QT Auckland is longstanding QT collaborator and interior designer Nic Graham, who will create the interiors for a variety of public spaces within the hotel, offering thoughtfully designed areas for locals and visitors to come together.
"We are excited to have secured a management contract for a QT hotel in Auckland, a key city that has been a missing piece of the QT footprint," says Jane Hastings, CEO of Event Hospitality & Entertainment. "Our partnership with Russell Property Group and Lockwood Property Group, together with our talented team of QT creatives, will ensure a QT Auckland experience that will carve a place of its own in the fabric of the city".
Brett Russell, Director of Russell Property Group said: "The decision to convert 4 Viaduct Harbor Avenue into a hotel was an easy one; the strategic harborside location combined with the unique footprint of the existing building makes this one of the best conversion opportunities available. Partnering with EVENT to provide Auckland with its first QT Hotel is very exciting. We are sure this vibrant upscale brand will become a destination favorite for both travelers and locals alike".
Works will be completed by Dominion Constructors Limited, experts in the field of hotel development who have completed a growing number of hotel projects in recent years. QT Auckland is expected to open in early 2020.
